Spider veins

Sclerotherapy is a procedure for the treatment of varicose veins and "spider" veins. During the treatment, the specialist injects a sodium chloride solution directly into the vein with a very fine needle. This solution irritates the lining of the vessel, eventually causing it to collapse and disappear.

Sclerotherapy is a safe procedure that has been used effectively for years to remove veins. Injection of the sclerosing substance mixed with an anesthetic helps keep discomfort during sclerotherapy to a minimum. Sclerotherapy patients are fully mobile after the procedure (in fact, they are encouraged to walk). Compression stockings should be worn temporarily. Sclerotherapy is appropriate for men or women. A consultation with the dermatologist will determine if sclerotherapy is a viable treatment option. Pregnant or lactating women are often advised to postpone treatment.
